Patricia J. Keefer Patricia J. (Ottoson) Keefer, 83, passed away August 8, 2017, at Annette Lodge in Paso Robles, Calif. She peacefully slipped away, ending her struggles from illness, after she woke in the morning and said "Don, I love you," and they held hands like they always did. Pat was the daughter and only child of Clifton and Kathryn Darnall. She was born in Pueblo, Colorado on September 12, 1933. Her father was in the U.S. Navy and Pat spent most of her childhood moving from one location to another. The family finally settled in Paso Robles, where she met her high school sweetheart and first husband, Roy "Skip" Ottoson. They ultimately settled in Ontario, Calif. where they raised their three children. Skip worked for the CA Youth Authority and Pat was a Secretary at Draper Walton Insurance Company. In 1974, they returned to Paso Robles, where Pat worked for List and Lathrop Accounting. Sadly, Skip passed away after a two-year battle with cancer in 1984. Several years later, a visit to the local car wash would bring Pat and Don Keefer together, already acquaintances. Don's first wife also lost her fight with cancer. A cup of coffee, and before long this couple found a second chance at love. They were married 26 years. Pat loved spending time with her family, and enjoyed lunches, shopping and beach trips with her girlfriends. She was graceful, beautiful and kind in spirit, but had a quick wit and often funny comebacks. She and Don traveled to Canada, Europe, Tahiti and wonderful weekend excursions. They truly enjoyed their retirement years together. In addition to Skip, Pat was preceded in death by her loving step-daughter, Shelley (Wade) Taylor. She is survived by her children: Mark (Wendi) Ottoson, Jill (Frank) Costa and Kathi (Jim) Calhoun; and her step-children: Pamela (David) Hudgens and Guy (Laura) Keefer. She was also blessed with 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was loved by all and will be greatly missed. The family wishes to thank Annette Lodge and the fantastic staff for Pat's wonderful care over the past two years. At the specific request of Pat, there will be a graveside service only at 10:30 am, Friday, August 18, 2017, at Paso Robles District Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of Kuehl-Nicolay Funeral Home.
